प्रतिशत कैलकुलेटर

Calculate percentages easily without memorising formulas. This percentage calculator has five ready-made calculation modes: share as a percentage, the value of a given percentage of a number, percentage change, discounted price and the original price after a discount. Choose a tab and enter the numbers.

5 laskutapaa
What percentage the part is of the whole.

Viisi laskutapaa yhdessä

  • Share % – what percentage the part is of the whole (e.g. 150 / 600 = 25 %).
  • X % of a number – how much a given percentage of a number is (e.g. 25 % of 80 = 20).
  • Muutos % – kasvu- tai laskuprosentti alku- ja loppuarvon välillä.
  • Alennus – alennettu hinta ja säästö euroina annetusta hinnasta ja alennusprosentista.
  • Original price – the price before the discount, when you know the discounted price and the discount percentage.

Percentage formulas

Percent means a hundredth. The basic formulas are simple, but choosing the right formula matters. You calculate a share by dividing the part by the whole and multiplying by a hundred: share % = part / whole × 100. You get the value of a given percentage with the formula value = percentage / 100 × number.

The percentage change tells you how much the value has grown or decreased: change % = (final − initial) / initial × 100. A positive result is growth, a negative one a decrease. Note that a 50 % drop followed by a 50 % rise does not restore the original value — which is exactly why calculating the original price needs its own formula.

What is the percentage calculator needed for?

Percentage calculations come up every day. In shops you work out discounts, at work margins and changes, in studies grades and compound interest. In tax calculations and VAT handling, percentages are central. With this calculator you avoid the typical mistakes, such as calculating the discount percentage from the wrong number or confusing the direction of a change.

Example: successive discounts

A product costs €120. The shop first gives a 20 % discount and at the till another 10 % extra discount. Many think the total discount is 30 %, but that is not the case. First discount: €120 × (1 − 0.20) = €96. The second discount is calculated from the already reduced price: €96 × (1 − 0.10) = €86.40. So the total discount is (120 − 86.40) / 120 = 28 %, not 30 %. Successive percentages compound, they do not add up.

Percentages in everyday situations

Percentage calculations come up in many forms. A restaurant tip is calculated from the total, VAT is added to the pre-tax price and a pay rise is expressed as a change percentage of the old salary. In investing, returns are stated as percentages and compound interest grows the sum year after year. Once you grasp which number the percentage is calculated from, you quickly pick the right tab and don't confuse a share with a change.

Promille ja prosenttiyksikkö

Close relatives of the percent are the per mille and the percentage point, and mixing them up easily leads to errors. Per mille means a thousandth, so 5 ‰ is 0.5 %. It is used, for example, for blood alcohol content and in some taxes. A percentage point, on the other hand, is the difference between two percentage figures: if interest rises from 3 % to 5 %, the rise is 2 percentage points but relatively as much as about 67 %.

This difference matters when reading news and statistics. "Support rose by two percentage points" and "support rose by two percent" mean completely different things. With the percentage calculator you compute the relative change, and by keeping the difference of units in mind you interpret the figures correctly. In an unclear situation it is always worth checking whether the change is calculated in units or as a relative share.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

How do I calculate a discount as a percentage?
Use the Change % or Discount tab. If you know the old and new price, the change percentage tells you the size of the discount. If you know the price and the discount percentage, you get the discounted price directly.
How do I find the original price from a discount?
Choose the Original price tab, enter the discounted price and the given discount percentage. The calculator divides the discounted price by (1 − discount/100).
Why don't a 50 % discount and a 50 % increase cancel each other out?
Because the percentages are calculated from different starting values. 100 → −50 % = 50, and 50 → +50 % = 75. That is why restoring the original value requires its own calculation.
Can I calculate percentage points?
This tool calculates percentages, not percentage points. A percentage point is the difference between two percentage figures; for example, from 25 % to 30 % is 5 percentage points but 20 % growth.
