حاسبة الكسور

Calculate with fractions without errors. This fraction calculator calculates the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of two fractions and gives the result in reduced form. At the same time you get the mixed number, decimal number and percentage as well as the intermediate steps, so you see how the answer is formed.

Enter two fractions — you get the reduced result, the mixed number, the decimal and the percentage.

How to calculate with fractions

  1. Enter the first fraction. Write the numerator and denominator in their own fields.
  2. Choose the operation. The options are +, −, × and ÷.
  3. Enter the second fraction. Enter the numerator and denominator in the same way.
  4. Calculate and read the steps. The result appears reduced and as a mixed number. Open the intermediate steps to see the common denominator and the reduction.

Rules for calculating with fractions

In addition and subtraction, the fractions must be given the same denominator, i.e. a common denominator is found for them. After that the numerators are added or subtracted. In multiplication, the numerators are multiplied together and the denominators together. In division, the first fraction is multiplied by the reciprocal of the second, i.e. the denominator and numerator swap places.

Finally, the result is reduced by dividing the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor. The calculator does this automatically and also shows if the result is an integer or a mixed number.

Fraction, decimal and percentage

The same number can be expressed as a fraction, a decimal or a percentage. For example, 3/4 is 0.75 as a decimal and 75 % as a percentage. The calculator shows all three forms at once, which makes comparison and checking easier. This is useful, for example, in recipes, proportions and school assignments.

Example: 2/3 + 3/4 step by step

Let's calculate 2/3 + 3/4. The denominators are different, so a common denominator is found. The least common multiple of 3 and 4 is 12. Expanding: 2/3 = 8/12 and 3/4 = 9/12. Now the numerators can be added: 8/12 + 9/12 = 17/12. The result is an improper fraction, which can be written as the mixed number 1 5/12. As a decimal it is about 1.4167. The calculator shows all these forms at once.

Mixed numbers and conversions

A mixed number is converted into a fraction by multiplying the whole part by the denominator and adding the numerator: 2 1/3 = (2·3 + 1)/3 = 7/3. The reverse conversion is done by division: 7/3 = 2 remainder 1, i.e. 2 1/3. These conversions are useful, for example, in recipes, where quantities are often given as mixed numbers, and in measurements, where inches are divided into fractional parts. Fluent handling of fractions also makes studying algebra easier later on.

Fractions in measurement and music

Fractions are not just school mathematics — they appear in everyday life in many ways. In the kitchen, recipes talk about thirds and quarters, and halving or tripling a quantity requires handling fractions. In construction and crafts, measurements are often given as fractional parts, especially in the inch system, where eighths and sixteenths occur.

In music, note durations are fractions: the whole note, half note, quarter note and eighth note divide the bar into parts that add up exactly to a full bar. A time signature such as 3/4 tells how many beats of what length fit in a bar. In all of these the same principle recurs: the parts are brought to a common denominator and summed. The fraction calculator helps you check whether the parts add up exactly.

Good to know about fractions

  • An integer is a fraction whose denominator is 1: for example, 5 = 5/1.
  • A fraction is zero only if the numerator is zero; the denominator can never be zero.
  • Two fractions are equal if cross-multiplication gives the same result: a/b = c/d when a·d = b·c.
  • Comparison is easiest by converting to decimals or finding a common denominator.

خلاصة

The fraction calculator calculates addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and gives the result reduced, as a mixed number, a decimal and a percentage. Enter the numerators and denominators, choose the operation and read the result with its intermediate steps. The tool reduces the answer automatically and shows the same number in several forms, which makes checking and learning easier.

الأسئلة الشائعة

Does the calculator reduce the result automatically?
Yes. The result is always given in reduced form, and the calculator also shows any mixed number.
Can I calculate with negative fractions?
Yes. Write a minus sign in the numerator, and the fraction becomes negative.
Are the intermediate steps shown?
Yes. By opening the steps you see the forming of the common denominator and the reduction, which helps with learning.
What happens in division?
In division, the calculator multiplies the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second. The denominator must not be zero.

Clear. I wish it could calculate more than one fraction at a time.
