Kalkulator logaritma
Calculate logarithm with the base you choose. Enter a number and a base, and you get the result — and at the same time you see the base-ten logarithm (log₁₀), the natural logarithm (ln) and the base-two logarithm (log₂). The base can be 10, 2, e or any positive number.

log · ln · valittava kantaWhat is a logarithm?
A logarithm answers the question: to what power must the base be raised to get the given number? For example, log₁₀(1000) = 3, because 10³ = 1000. The base-ten logarithm is often written log, the natural logarithm (base e ≈ 2.718) is written ln, and in computing the base-two log₂ is often used.
| Ungkapan | Question | Keputusan |
|---|---|---|
| log₁₀(1000) | 10^? = 1000 | 3 |
| ln(e) | e^? = e | 1 |
| log₂(8) | 2^? = 8 | 3 |
| log₁₀(1) | 10^? = 1 | 0 |
| log₂(1024) | 2^? = 1024 | 10 |

- Enter the number. The argument, i.e. the number whose logarithm is calculated (must be greater than 0).
- Enter the base. 10, 2, e or some other positive number. The shortcuts log₁₀, ln and log₂ are ready to use.
- Calculate. The result with the chosen base plus log₁₀, ln and log₂ side by side.

The logarithm of any base can be calculated using the natural or base-ten logarithm with the change-of-base formula: log_b(x) = ln(x) / ln(b). The calculator uses this internally, so you can choose the base freely. Logarithms are needed, for example, in handling sound level (decibel), acidity (pH), earthquakes (Richter) and compound-interest phenomena.
Example: pH and sound level
Logarithms appear in many scales. Acidity is expressed by the pH value, which is −log₁₀(hydrogen-ion concentration). If the concentration is 10⁻⁴ mol/l, pH = −log₁₀(10⁻⁴) = 4. Sound level is measured in decibels, which are logarithmic: the sound power tenfolds for every 10 decibels. Because of this, 60 dB is not twice 30 dB but a thousand times more powerful. The logarithm compresses large ranges into convenient numbers.
Rules for calculating logarithms
The basic formulas for logarithms follow from the power rules. The logarithm of a product is the sum of the logarithms: log(xy) = log x + log y. The logarithm of a quotient is their difference: log(x/y) = log x − log y. The logarithm of a power brings the exponent out as a factor: log(xⁿ) = n·log x. These rules explain why logarithms once turned multiplications into additions and made hand calculation easier. With the change-of-base formula log_b(x) = ln x / ln b you can change the base freely.

When the values under examination span many orders of magnitude, an ordinary linear scale does not work: the small values flatten out of sight. On a logarithmic scale, each step corresponds to a multiplication rather than an addition — typically a tenfold increase. This way both small and large values fit legibly into the same graph.
Logarithmic scales are used, for example, in the Richter scale for earthquakes, in sound decibels and in long-term economic growth curves. On the Richter scale, a rise of one unit means about ten times the energy, so a magnitude-6 quake is enormously stronger than a magnitude-5 one. Once you understand the logarithm, such scales open up: they describe multiplication rather than addition, and the logarithm calculator helps you convert values in either direction.
Good to know about logarithms
- The logarithm is defined only for positive numbers; log(0) and the logarithm of negatives are not real.
- log(1) = 0 in any base, because any number to the power 0 is 1.
- log(base) = 1: for example, log₁₀(10) = 1 and ln(e) = 1.
- The logarithm grows slowly — a tenfold increase in a number adds only one to the base-ten logarithm.
Ringkasnya
The logarithm calculator computes the logarithm with the base you choose and at the same time shows log₁₀, ln and log₂. Enter the number and base, and the tool uses the change-of-base formula automatically. Logarithms are central to many scales, such as pH and decibels, and the calculator converts the values effortlessly.
